KRIPAL manufactures IP66 waterproof switches in the UKW2 series for manual circuit control in outdoor, wet and dusty industrial environments. These switches provide reliable ON-OFF control of lighting, heating, motor and equipment circuits where exposure to water, dust or mechanical impact would damage a standard indoor switch. Available in rated currents from 10A to 63A at 230/400V AC with 1P, 2P, 3P and 4P configurations, the UKW2 features a rotary cam-operated switching mechanism with silver-alloy contacts, housed in a UV-stabilized, glass-fiber reinforced polyamide enclosure rated IP66 per IEC 60529. The switch handle is operable while wearing work gloves and provides clear ON-OFF position indication visible from 5 meters. The enclosure includes a hinged transparent cover that protects the handle from inadvertent operation and allows visual confirmation of the switch position. All cable entries are via IP68 glands on the enclosure bottom face, and the enclosure includes an integral mounting bracket with pre-drilled fixing holes. Certified to IEC 60947-3, KRIPAL waterproof switches are installed on construction sites, in agricultural buildings, at wastewater treatment plants, on ship decks and in food processing facilities where wash-down cleaning is performed.

Ask a QuoteA waterproof switch is a manually operated switching device enclosed in an IP66-rated housing that protects the switching mechanism and electrical connections from water jets, dust ingress and mechanical impact. The switch is designed for circuits where environmental conditions preclude the use of a standard indoor switch mounted in a dry enclosure. The IP66 rating means the enclosure is dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets, making it suitable for outdoor installation without a roof or canopy, and for indoor areas subject to hose-down cleaning. This selection guide covers current rating, pole configuration, switching mechanism and environmental protection.
The UKW2 switch mechanism is rated for AC-22A utilization category (switching of mixed resistive and inductive loads, including moderate overload) for currents up to 63A. For motor loads, the switch can handle the starting inrush of a motor rated up to approximately 50 percent of the switch’s resistive rating (a 63A UKW2 can directly switch a 30A three-phase motor). For purely resistive loads (heating, incandescent lighting), the switch can be loaded to 100 percent of its rated current. The contact material (silver-nickel, AgNi10) provides good resistance to arc erosion from inductive load switching and maintains low contact resistance over the switch’s 10,000-operation mechanical life. For applications requiring frequent load switching (more than 10 operations per day), a contactor controlled by the UKW2 is recommended to extend the switch contact life.
1P: single-phase line switching (neutral solid), for basic lighting and single-phase equipment control. 2P: single-phase line and neutral switching, required for circuits where both poles must be isolated. 3P: three-phase switching without neutral, for three-phase motor and heater circuits. 4P: three-phase and neutral switching, for main incoming isolation and circuits requiring neutral isolation. Multi-pole switches use a common cam mechanism that mechanically links all poles, ensuring simultaneous operation. An auxiliary contact block (1NO+1NC) can be added to provide remote status indication to a PLC or indicator lamp, with the auxiliary contact mechanically driven by the main switch toggle for positive position indication.
The UKW2 enclosure is injection-molded from glass-fiber reinforced polyamide (PA6-GF30) formulated for outdoor service with UV stabilizers (hindered amine light stabilizers) and thermal stabilizers. The IP66 rating is verified by a 3-minute water jet test at 100 liters/minute from a 12.5mm nozzle. The transparent cover over the handle is molded from UV-stabilized polycarbonate with a silicone gasket, hinged at the top and secured by a captive screw at the bottom. The cover can be padlocked in the closed position to prevent unauthorized operation. The enclosure is tested for impact resistance (IK08, 5 Joules) and for chemical resistance to common industrial cleaning agents, oils, diesel fuel and mild acids/alkalis found in agricultural and food processing environments.
The UKW2 switch handle can be padlocked in the OFF position with a padlock shackle up to 6mm diameter, providing a local lockout point for maintenance safety. The padlock hasp is integral to the handle mechanism. When the handle cover is also padlocked closed, the switch is doubly secured against unauthorized operation. This padlock facility satisfies the lockout-tagout requirements of OSHA and equivalent workplace safety regulations. For multi-contractor lockout, a multi-lock hasp accessory accepts up to 3 padlocks.
KRIPAL UKW2 waterproof switches provide reliable manual circuit control in environments where water, dust, impact and chemicals make standard indoor switches unsuitable. From the pump control switch in a wastewater treatment plant to the lighting switch in a food processing cleanroom, the IP66 enclosure protects the switching mechanism and ensures reliable operation regardless of the surrounding environment.
Wastewater treatment plants use UKW2 63A 3P switches for local pump isolation and control in wet wells, screen chambers and chemical dosing areas. The IP66 enclosure withstands continuous high humidity, occasional submersion during flooding, and exposure to hydrogen sulfide gas which corrodes standard electrical equipment. The switch is mounted on a wall bracket above the potential flood level, with the cable entries sealed against gas ingress to prevent corrosion of the internal contacts.
Food processing facilities use UKW2 switches in areas subject to daily hose-down cleaning with hot water and detergent. The IP66 enclosure protects the switch mechanism from water jets at up to 100 liters per minute, and the chemical-resistant housing material withstands exposure to food-grade cleaning chemicals. The transparent cover is sealed with a food-grade silicone gasket and can be padlocked OFF during the cleaning shift to prevent accidental machinery startup while cleaning staff are inside guarded areas.
Agricultural buildings housing livestock use UKW2 switches for ventilation fan, feed conveyor and water pump control. The IP66 enclosure resists the ammonia-rich atmosphere that corrodes standard electrical contacts, and the impact-resistant housing withstands accidental impacts from feed buckets and cleaning equipment. The switch handle is large enough to operate while wearing heavy work gloves, and the padlock facility is used to lock off equipment during maintenance.
Ship deck machinery (winches, capstans, cargo pumps) uses UKW2 switches for local control, with the IP66 enclosure protecting against salt spray and green water on deck. The enclosure material includes UV stabilizers for tropical sunlight exposure and is tested for salt spray resistance per ISO 9227 (1000 hours neutral salt spray). The switch is mounted with stainless steel 316 fasteners to prevent corrosion at the fixing points, and the cable glands are nickel-plated brass for marine environment resistance.
Quarries and surface mines use UKW2 switches for conveyor, crusher and screen local isolation. The IP66 enclosure protects against airborne dust that would quickly foul standard switch contacts, and the impact-resistant housing withstands stone chip impacts from nearby blasting and crushing operations. The padlock facility provides the lockout point required by mining safety regulations before maintenance personnel enter the crusher or screen enclosure.
KRIPAL waterproof switches are manufactured on a dedicated assembly line where the sealed switch mechanism is integrated into an IP66 enclosure with a flexible membrane actuator. Each waterproof switch undergoes a full sealing integrity test and electrical performance verification for global outdoor, marine, and wet-environment switching applications.
The switching mechanism is sealed within a chamber separated from the external environment by a flexible elastomeric membrane. The membrane transmits handle movement to the internal switch contacts without any mechanical penetration of the sealing barrier. Membrane material is selected for UV resistance and tested for 50,000 operations without cracking or loss of flexibility.
Enclosures are molded from UV-stabilized engineering thermoplastic with integrally molded cable entry points. Pre-fitted cable glands with compression seals are tested for IP66 integrity with the specified cable diameter range installed. The enclosure cover is fitted with a captive silicone gasket and stainless steel captive screws that maintain sealing compression over repeated opening.
Switch contacts are silver-plated copper rated for the full load current (10A to 63A) at AC-21A or AC-22A utilization categories. Terminal screws are captive and fitted with rising clamp washers to prevent conductor damage. Each terminal is torque-verified during assembly to the specified tightening torque per IEC 60947-1.
Every waterproof switch undergoes a full electrical safety test: dielectric withstand at 2500V AC between live parts and the enclosure, insulation resistance measurement at 500V DC, and earth continuity test from the earth terminal to accessible metal parts. A pneumatic pressure decay test is performed on sample units from each batch to verify IP66 sealing integrity.
