- Project: Pueblo Verde de Almonte – Transforming Rooftops into “Sunshine Savings”
- Year: 2025
- Location: Almonte, Huelva Province, Andalusia, Spain
- Scale: 1.45 MW Distributed PV Power Station
- Beneficiaries: Over 3,500 local households and businesses

The Project & The Challenge
Spain’s energy transition took a monumental step forward in 2025 with the completion of Pueblo Verde de Almonte, currently the nation’s largest shared self-consumption photovoltaic (PV) project. The challenge was to provide clean, affordable energy to a large rural community without requiring individual homeowners to make upfront investments, alter their roofs, or consume additional land resources.
The solution was an innovative “shared” community model. By utilizing approximately 7,500 square meters of unused rooftop space across 20 industrial buildings, the project established a centralized 1.45 MW distributed solar hub that feeds directly into the local grid.
Technical Milestones & Environmental Impact
The project utilizes over 2,000 high-efficiency ABC (All Back Contactor) photovoltaic modules. Thanks to their superior conversion efficiency, the system achieved an additional 61.75 kW of installed capacity within the same footprint compared to traditional technology.
- Energy Output: Generates an extra 212 MWh in its first year, with a projected additional 6.477 million kWh over its 30-year lifecycle.
- Economic Benefit: The levelized cost of energy (LCOE) is an astonishingly low €01341/kWh, a fraction of the local retail price of ~€0.15/kWh. It meets roughly 30% of the annual electricity needs for each connected household, yielding substantial “sunshine savings.”
- Eco-Contribution: Reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 585 tons annually—equivalent to planting 29,250 trees.
Kripal Electric’s Role
While Kripal Electric does not manufacture the solar panels or inverters, our products are the critical infrastructure that connects, protects, and controls this massive 1.45 MW system. We provided a full-link power distribution solution tailored for commercial rooftop PV and PV+Storage scenarios, ensuring the system operates with zero downtime.
Here is how Kripal’s specialised product series empowered the project:
New Energy Series (DC Side Protection)
- PV DC Isolator Switches: Crucial for the PV arrays, these ensure rapid disconnection of high-voltage DC circuits during maintenance, guaranteeing absolute safety for operational staff.
- PV DC MCBs & MCCBs: Provide precise short-circuit and overload protection for PV strings and combiner boxes across the distributed network.
Distribution Series (AC Grid Connection)
- Molded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB): Installed in PV grid-connection and low-voltage distribution cabinets, managing the heavy AC loads safely.
