UKC1-9C~85C Capacitor Contactor is an electrical switching device specifically designed for controlling the switching of power capacitors. Primarily used in low-voltage reactive power compensation systems, it precisely manages the connection and disconnection of capacitors to regulate grid power factor, reduce line losses, and improve overall power system efficiency.

Comprising an electromagnetic coil, main contacts, an arc suppression device, and auxiliary contacts, its core design focuses on suppressing inrush current during capacitor switching. When the grid power factor drops below a set value, the control system sends a signal to energize the contactor coil. The armature pulls in, closing the main contacts and connecting the capacitor to the circuit for reactive power compensation.

When the power factor meets requirements or the capacitor needs to be disconnected, the coil de-energizes, and the main contacts open via spring action, disconnecting the capacitor from the grid. The pre-charging design ensures smooth current flow at the moment of contact closure, extending equipment service life.

  • When the capacitor contactor closes, capacitors must discharge before recharging (maximum residual terminal voltage ≤50V).
  • For effective short-circuit protection, gG-type fuse ratings must be 1.5–2 times the circuit’s rated current.
  • Capacitor units and contactors must be connected using impedance-rated wiring.
  • UKC1(D)-C Series: Designed for switching 3-phase single or multiple-stage capacitor banks. Compliant with IEC 60947-4-1, UL, and CSA standards.

  • Used in low-voltage distribution cabinets at factories and workshops, these contactors work with power factor controllers to switch capacitor banks, correcting low power factor caused by inductive loads like motors and transformers.
  • In shopping malls and office buildings, they dynamically adjust capacitor engagement to stabilise grid voltage, reduce line losses, and support efficient operation of HVAC systems and elevators.
  • For solar and wind farm power systems, the contactors compensate reactive power generated by inverters, helping improve energy conversion efficiency.
  • In critical settings such as hospitals and subway networks, they maintain a stable power factor to prevent capacity shortages or equipment failure due to excessive reactive power.
